About Us

Who we are

Hari Singh College, Haveli-Kharagpur right from its inception, this college is very much dedicated towards imparting quality education to the students. Thus, the establishment of this college caused awareness among the common public of Haveli-Kharagpur who became eager to get their children admitted to this college. This is perceptible in rapid increase in number of students seeking admission in this college.
With the vision to provide higher educational opportunities to the weaker and the downtrodden (specially women) of remote rural areas of Haveli-Kharagpur, the college was established in the year 1960 and named after a well-known social worker Hari Singh who had much pain for the poor, uneducated mass.
H.S. College Haveli-Kharagpur, Munger at a distance of about 40 km away from Munger district headquarter and 15 km West of Tarapur. The college is located in the midst of a large number of under-developed villages inhabited by weaker uneducated, neglected, poor people of extremely backward, minorities (Muslims), S.C. and tribal sections.
It was one of the 29 constituent units of T.M.B. University, Bhagalpur. After establishment (June-1960) it got a constituent status on 31st-December-1980 under T.M.B. University Bhagalpur. This college got recognition by U.G.C. under 2(f) on 31st-December-1980.
The college can boast of high standard of teaching, the credit of which goes to its devoted teachers. Hundred percent of its teachers have got Doctorate degree. We offer general courses. The college has got a large field that helps promote sports activities. Besides sports, other extracurricular activities, such as debate, music etc, are also held.
Although having not a very satisfactory infrastructural facility, the college had made rapid progress in almost all directions within 56 years of its existence. In addition to Intermediate level of teaching in Arts & Science faculty, the college imparts education up to undergraduate level teaching in 07 subjects in Arts & 05 subjects in Science. To meet the various challenges of 21st century we are trying to organize the teaching-learning process more and more student centric. Its aims are to generate critical thinking, creativity and scientific temper among students to nature and transform them into lifelong learners and innovator. Department have been provided with computers and internet.
Facilities to cope with the emerging needs of blended learning. There is well-maintained Library. There are about 9572 books of different subjects categorized subject-wise and kept in different almirah. Various newspapers are made available here. The digitization of the library is in process. Teachers of the college are highly qualified and research oriented.
Students of the college have been doing well in University Examinations from the very beginning. Our NSS unit is engaged in serving the neglected, backward and uneducated community of the society. The unit has made him aware of hygiene, AIDS, Cancer, Malnutrition, parasitic diseases, population explosion global warming, pollution etc.

The College has 9.25 acres land with old and a new building. The old building possesses a Principal chamber, administrative block, Laboratories, Library. The new building has class rooms, girls common room, staff room. We have Internet and Free Wi-Fi, facility in the Campus very recently.
For all-round development of students, the college has a vast playground in front of the college building where boys and girls practice for outdoor games. Every year selected players and athletes participate inter college and inter university games. Many a time the college had been the venue of the inter college tournaments.
Study periods are strictly observed (checked) by the principal or the authorities deployed. Various committees have been formed for the smooth functioning of the college. Discipline, Characters and moral values are the special areas of the attention and the faculty members guide personally to students for the same.
The college has over 280 working days and about 180 teaching days per year. Tutorial and special classes are arranged to meet the learning problems of students.
In order to facilitate the process of admission as well as teaching learning process, the college publishes up-dated prospectus annually to ensure its commitment and accountability to its declared vision, mission and objectives of holistic development of students’ moral personality and economic prosperity. The college strictly follows the reservation policy of central and state government along with the guidelines of UGC.
